Dr. Aretha Narayan

PT, DPT,
Doctor of Physical Therapy & Pelvic Health Specialist

Physical therapy began calling my name in high school. I would spend time with our Athletic Trainer and get to see how he would handle different injuries. I was drawn to learning how capable our bodies were of healing and how our athletes could get back to doing what they loved.

I strive to look at the body holistically and aim to assist my patients in reaching balance in different aspects of life to set their bodies up for success.

I earned my Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Oakland University in Michigan. During my first anatomy course in Physical Therapy school I briefly learned about the pelvic floor and was immediately intrigued about these small muscles I had never heard about. I knew I had to learn more and soon had a chance to shadow a pelvic health physical therapist. I was drawn to the impact urinary dysfunction or painful intercourse could have on one’s life. While in school I began experiencing symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome and was able to witness first hand how much pelvic health physical therapy helped with symptoms.

My career began in outpatient orthopedics and pelvic health, and progressed to include in-home physical therapy. In those first few years, I worked to expand my knowledge and experience in various populations, integrating pelvic health education within a variety of diagnoses. As my career progressed, I expanded my knowledge and skillset, completing extensive pelvic health specialty training through the Herman & Wallace Pelvic Rehabilitation Institute and growing my expertise through advanced coursework in manual therapy such as visceral manipulation and dry needling. I am passionate about working with people of all ages and all genders dealing with pelvic health challenges. I strive to look at the body holistically and aim to assist my patients in reaching balance in different aspects of life to set their bodies up for success. Nothing is more fulfilling than being able to provide my patients with the education and tools to regain their independence and empower them to live the lives they want!

“Like many women, it took years to be diagnosed with Endometriosis. After surgery in 2022 I was still dealing with pelvic pain. I decided to try pelvic physical therapy, not knowing anything about what it entailed but willing to try. Dr. Aretha Narayan is wonderful; she is the first in the medical field to truly hear me and acknowledge my unique experience. Over three months she worked with me to address years of tension and empower me with the tools, exercises, and validation to continue my health journey. I felt so secure and safe in the practice, and I know there's an open door should I need further assistance with my pain. Highly recommend.”
