Tip of the Week: Powerful Pelvic Health Goals in the New Year

Happy New  Year!!!

I love the New Year. I know not everyone is a fan of resolutions, but for me, the New Year allows a time to pause, reflect, and refocus. Each year, Andrew and I try to dedicate time to reflect on what went well the prior year-- what habits we've developed, what we're proud of-- and then also, what isn't going the way we want. Then, we create our vision for the new year-- what we want it to be like, who we want to be, what we want for our families- for SPH - for our community.

Visualizing Goals

We started making "vision boards" on New Year's Eve (Yes, we're very exciting!) a few years ago, and it has turned into a tradition we love. We get magazines we connect with, cut out words and pictures, write some of our goals and dreams, and connect over our hopes for the new year. There is a certain power to visualizing what you want for the future.

Sooo, for today, I want to encourage you to prioritize your pelvic health in the new year. The reality is:

  • Nearly 50% of women leak urine at some point in their lives (with exercise, urges, coughing/sneezing or other!)

  • Constipation is the #1 GI complaint in the country.

  • 46% of women with pelvic floor dysfunction postpartum stop exercising because of their pelvic floor problems.

  • 10% of men deal with chronic pelvic pain

  • Approximately 40% of women and 30% of men deal with sexual dysfunction.

This doesn't have to be your story. It doesn't have to be your friend's story, or your family member's story. The reality is that we have and continue to research and learn how to best help these problems so they don't have to impact your life and stop you from enjoying what you enjoy. 2024 can be the year this changes!

Let's work together to make 2024 the year of the healthy pelvic floor!
Wishing you a bright and joyful New Year!
